Dialed In: A Dual Review

Cartier & Panerai: Better in Blue

The color blue, is without a doubt, one of the most popular colors in watchmaking. And few watches prove that popularity better than the Cartier Santos and the Panerai Luminor.

Famously designed for Alberto Santos-Dumont (an aviator and friend of Mr. Cartier), this watch was designed to meet a specific need--a watch that could be worn on the wrist while flying.

While wristwatches in general, and pilot's watches in particular, may be familiar to us today, it was a groundbreaking concept at the time. Revolutionary, even. Talk about heritage!

Like all Santos watches, this has a square shape and exposed screws on the bezel (Audemars Piguet, anyone?). This Santos is part of the current generation launched in 2018, which includes an in-house movement.

With its steel case and elegant looks, Hodinkee thinks the Santos de Cartier is "always a good answer to the question: What watch would make a perfect one-watch collection?"

And after watching the review above, you might want to head over here to purchase yours.

THE PANERAI LUMINOR 1313

As some have said, "It’s hard to think of a more blissfully simple, functional dial than the Luminor Marina"

Indeed, this watch is blissful in blue, with a striking sunray dial and a sleek alligator strap to match.

But don't take my word for it--just look at it:

In sum, there are only a handful of watches that are instantly recognizable at first glance--and Panerai is one of them.

If you're in the market for a 1313, check out the inventory here.
