A Compelling Calatrava

What is in a name? "Calatrava" comes from the Cross of Calatrava, a symbol of the 12th century Spanish military order (which Patek later adopted as their official logo).

Often described as "classic" or "conservative," Calatravas are simple and elegant--embodying the Bauhaus "form following function" philosophy. Ever since its inaugural launch in 1932, the Calatrava line has established itself as the "quintessence of the classic round wristwatch" (at least according to Patek Philippe).

Now, we're a long way from 1932, but the Calatrava is still a prized timepiece. And while it comes in two varieties, the rose-gold version is the de facto flagship.

With a larger size (39mm), applied hour markers, and a stunning manual-wind movement--not to mention a silvery grained dial, hobnail bezel, and alligator strap--this is one of the most striking Calatravas. Overall, this represents a major improvement for Patek. It's like your father's Calatrava – but more compelling.
